Chapter 01 — Why this exists
Most job ads are written to attract, not inform.
"Fast-paced environment" usually means understaffed. "Wear many hats" means three jobs, one salary. "Competitive salary" means we did not benchmark and we will lowball. "Must be a self-starter" means no manager, no onboarding, no support. The recruiter who wrote it knows. The candidate reading it does not.
The Decoder is a translation layer. Paste any job ad — public posting, LinkedIn link, PDF — and get the honest version line by line. Twenty-three red-flag patterns trained on 50,000 real ads, with severity scores and the questions to ask in the screen call to verify each one.
It is not a witch hunt. Some jobs really are fast-paced and rewarding. The Decoder shows you which is which, so you spend your time on real opportunities and not on rebuilds disguised as growth roles.
