Screening Questions are specific questions that candidates answer as part of the application process, before their CV is processed. They can be used to capture information that is not on a CV or to screen for specific eligibility requirements.
Adding Screening Questions to a Role
Go to the role settings → Application Settings → Screening Questions → + Add Question.
For each question, configure: - Question text — Keep questions short and specific - Answer type — Short text, long text, Yes/No, or Multiple Choice - Required? — Whether the question must be answered to submit - Disqualifying answer — For Yes/No questions, you can mark one answer as disqualifying. Candidates who give a disqualifying answer receive an immediate automated rejection.
Good Uses for Screening Questions
- Eligibility requirements: "Do you have the right to work in [country]?" (Yes/No with disqualifying answer)
- Specific qualifications: "Do you hold a current CPC certification?" (Yes/No)
- Location requirements: "Are you able to work from our [city] office 3 days per week?" (Yes/No)
- Motivated applications: "In a sentence or two, why are you interested in this specific role?" (Short text)
What to Avoid
Screening questions are most effective when brief. Every additional question reduces application completion rates. Keep them to 2-3 maximum. Avoid questions that duplicate what the AI can assess from the CV (years of experience, technical skills) — use screening questions for binary eligibility checks that cannot be CV-screened.
Viewing Answers
Screening question answers appear in the candidate's Scout Report under the Application tab, alongside their CV. They are also visible as a flag indicator in the pipeline list view.
